About this project
The Founder set the goal to verify in the next 6 months if there was a burning need for an effective nurse scheduling solution among hospitals in US & Canada.
Roles
Customer Research Consultant, Business Analyst, Executive Assistant, Startup Mentor
Situation
It was unclear how big was the market, how big was the problem, what sort of customers actually needed a solution, how sales & purchases are done in healthcare, etc.
The main challenges were to understand:
- What is the problem space around nurse scheduling
- Who are the competitors
- How painful the problems really are and who is in need of a solution
- What the USP could be
- How are we going to sell it
… and make sure the Founder stays focused on what’s important now.
What I Did
- Read 3 books on nursing, scheduling & nurse leadership.
- Setup Notion for everything research related.
- Based on readings, created the knowledgebase.
- Analyzed the competitive landscape.
- Drafted the problem statements, the hypotheses, the most riskiest assumptions, customer profiles, and the in-depth interview questions per role of a target interviewee.
- Sourced contacts of the desired interviewees.
- Analyzed the interviews and documented problems, current solutions, insights/sales tips.
- Mentored Founder how he could get valuable information during the next interviews.

Mapped the nurse- & patient-centered ecosystems

Sourced 39 contacts of Nurse Leaders

- Analyzed the nursing book references for names.
- Googled them, found them and similar profiles on LinkedIn and Upwork, recorded useful info (their recent posts, news, etc.) to make an attractive opener; found emails where possible. For the rest we used LeadRocks.
Prepped the Founder for 9 in-depth interviews with Nurse Leaders & Execs

Trained Founder on how he could get useful insights rather hearing what he was willing to hear by unconsciously guiding his interviewee toward the desired answers.

Analyzed interviews for insights

Used Gemini AI to summarize the interviews and identify key insights

Initially, we thought the target market were Nurses (RNs).
Over a series of interviews, it turned out the target market most probably was among the Nurse Leaders (Chief Nursing Officers, Nurse Unit Managers, Charge Nurses, Schedulers), although nurses could also be the users.
